WHEN SHOULD I BOOK NEWBORN BLISS FOR MY NEWBORN SESSION?
It is never too early to book for your newborn session as my availability fills quickly. I only schedule a limited number of sessions each month to allow plenty of time and attention to each of my clients, therefore, booking 2-3 months in advance is recommended.
HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION WHEN I’M NOT SURE WHEN BABY WILL BE BORN?
Easy Peasie… I limit my Newborn Sessions to 10 – 12 newborns per month. These are based on Baby’s Due Date. Limiting the number of newborns I take on per month guarantees my availability and that I am able to get you scheduled once your little one arrives. In slower months, we occasionally will take on additional newborn sessions for little ones who have already made their apperance. Once baby is born, let me know as soon as possible and we will select an actual date and time. I prefer to be notified when baby is around 2 days new and definitely before baby turns 5 days. If you do not contact me within that first week, I cannot guarantee availability before the 2 week mark, so please contact me very early. I always make an effort to have availability for newborns, but I do have other sessions that are scheduled months in advance.
WHEN DO NEWBORN SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
The best time to photograph your newborn is BEFORE 3 weeks of age. The 7-18 day old range is optimal for newborn images and is the best time to get those precious, peaceful, sleepy, and very curly poses. After three weeks old, the baby is far more alert and baby acne and colic are common at that age. If your baby is older than 3 weeks, don’t worry, we can still capture beautiful photos – it may just take more effort on both ends and we will need to skip some of the poses you see and may have more awake images.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?
Newborn sessions typically run long due to the nature and frequent soothing of the infant, expect a minimum of 3 hours. I do not rush the session and I let baby take as many breaks as needed with my assistant and I. The safety and comfort of the baby are always my #1 priority. This is also time for mom and dad to rest and relax in our lounge area as my assistant and I take over for the duration of the session very rarely handing off to Mom or Dad. You may watch TV while we work or feel free to bring a book, catch up on emails, texts, and Social Media, take a nap on our comfy couch or simply sit back and enjoy watching the session from the lounge area.
DO YOU PROVIDE ANY PROPS FOR THE SESSION?
We have a wide selection of props, including an abundance of hats, blankets, wraps, headbands, beanies, throws, crowns, baskets, buckets, bowls, and much, much more that we provide as Kendra personally stylizes your session just for you. Though there is nothing that you need to bring, if there is something special you have that you would like to bring or a specific theme that you would like to incorporate into the session, you may bring props along with you and we will do our best to incorporate them into the session.
CAN I REQUEST CERTAIN POSES OR SHOTS I’VE SEEN ON PINTEREST AND OTHER PHOTOGRAPHY SITES?
Yes, you can, however, there are certain poses and props, that in my own opinion, are unsafe and pose harm to the baby. These poses, I will not do. Again, baby and his/her safety is my number one priority. We prefer you draw inspiration from our past work instead of someone else’s.
(WE WILL NOT USE ANY GLASS PROPS)
WHERE DOES THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?
Sessions take place in my home studio located just North of Amarillo.
(near North Western and North Loop 335)
Once you have booked with us, You will be emailed a Map and Directions to the Studio.
CAN A SIBLING AND PARENTS BE IN A FEW SHOTS?
With the Newborn Bliss Session option, YES, of course! I allow parents and siblings to be included for a few shots at the beginning of the Session at no additional cost. I do request that siblings and anyone who is not mom or dad have arrangements to be picked up once we have completed the images that include them. The session does last a few hours and little ones tend to get bored and cranky having to wait around (my little one would too!). That can unease the newborn or parents which will effect the atmosphere for the session. It’s also important to keep in mind that we do all newborn sessions, Tuesday – Friday at around 10:00 – 11:00am. We are closed on weekends and in the evenings.
ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD BRING?
We provide almost everything needed for our Newborn Sessions (including wipes, & diapers). The only two things we require is a bottle or two of either breast milk or formula and a “soothie” pacifier – the greenish kind they have in hospitals. These are GOLD in keeping them asleep!
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY NEWBORN SESSION?
Prior to your session, I will send you an email that contains our Prep Guide with specific instructions and tips.
